Baked Goods Not Bank Bailouts!

Monday, November 1st, 2010
On Thursday, November 4, Keith McHenry, co-founder of the 30 year-old social justice activist organization Food Not Bombs, is coming to Kirksville to give his presentation, “Baked Goods Not Bank Bailouts!”

He will be at Truman’s campus for the afternoon, then will be speaking in Magruder 2001 from 8-9:30.

We provided the impetus for this to happen, and Kate Seaton along with Truman State University’s Peace Fellows, Students for Social Change, Environmental Campus Organization, Truman in Africa, The Communiversity Garden and the President’s Sustainability Action Committee, have funded it and made it become a reality.

Here’s a description of the event from the Facebook Event:

Come one come all to hear Keith McHenry, co-founder of the organization Food Not Bombs speak about their current project Baked Goods Not Bank Bailouts! There will be a lecture, short film, demonstration of a solar oven, potentially some delicious breads, and a Q&A session.

Thanks to all of them for carrying on this exciting event for Kirksville!

Last Minute Veggie Van Tour- Oct 19th at 6pm

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Sean Zigmund’s Veggie Van is coming to the KPEC.

He’s taken it across the country and back for over 25,000 miles of waste vegetable oil (WVO) power. The Van also has a Solar Power hook-up that runs all Sean’s equipment when he’s on site as a natural builder.

We had intended for this event to happen at the end of October, but plans changed, and we’re sneaking it tomorrow evening before Emily’s presentation on Bike Touring and Superhero-ing at 7pm.

So come out at 6:00 pm on October 19th to the KPEC to get a tour of Sean’s Veggie Van and learn the basics of how WVO and Solar systems work, then stick around for Bike Touring and Superhero-ing.

So come on down to the KPEC on October 19th at 7:00pm for Bike Touring and Superhero-ing 101, led by a bike tourer with thousands of miles on her bike.
