More Sprouts

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

It turns out that all the pictures of sprouts I posted last time were just early sprouting weeds that were in the soil mix we made. I guess the excitement of seeing the first growth disoriented me.  This time, though- these are the real ones.

They’re doing well, but we’re a little concerned with their growth as we don’t have any spots that get full sun all day. Even our south facing windows only get a sliver of sun because of the slightly too far reaching overhang on the roof. It seems like they’re growing taller in an attempt to reach the sun, but as a result are lacking a stout base. From what I’ve been told, it sounds like they’ll survive just fine.

Sprouts and Set-up

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

We started most of our seeds a few days ago, and some leeks, broccoli, cabbage and one variety of tomato sprouted today.  Hopefully they are just the first of many.  We’ve set up all the flats and yogurt cup planters on a shelf/bench that we built this week from thrown away (mostly palette) wood.
